Paula Van Huss
I have been an artist for over 30 years and a watercolorist for over 20 years. Though largely self taught, I studied under Clint Carter, Mary Booth Owens and Morton Solberg before developing my own unique style of presenting my ideas in watercolor. My work hangs in collections from Georgia to California and has been exhibited in shows and galleries in the Southeast including the Georgia State Capital Building and the United States Congress. I prefer to do works of my own ideas, but do accept some commission work when the client’s desires and my vision seem to be particularly well suited to each other. I am very active in the art community presently serving on the gallery committee of the Sautee Nacoochee Community Association and am a member of both the North Georgia Arts Guild and the Blue Ridge Art Association. I have been interviewed by The Northeast Georgia Living Magazine (Summer 2004) and the Northeast Georgian newspaper. My art was used as illustration in “Experience Art” produced by the Georgia Heritage Center for the Arts. The Atlanta High Museum of Art invited me to produce an art piece for their charity auction in 2004. Born in 1944 in Liberal Kansas, I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I am a retired Northwest Airlines employee and have exhibited art in several Southeastern art shows and North Georgia Galleries. My subject matter requires a deep understanding of the life of the North American Native Peoples. I have traveled extensively in the Western United States and do detailed research before depicting a scene or event in my art. I live with my husband and various pets in the mountains outside of Blairsville, Georgia. The seclusion and natural setting of my home inspires me to an almost mystical style of painting.
